If you can't make it on a wine trip why not try a virtual wine tasting from your own home? (or anywhere you have access to broadband.) Go to www.tastoria.com. They run internet wine tastings. You can order your tasting pack of six carefully chosen wines from around the world on the internet or over the phone and have it delivered to your home. Invite your friends. Their next event is June 21, 2007, and the theme will be "Summertime Sip 'n' Sizzle" with food pairings that can be prepared on the grill. They have different themes and film from different parts of the States and the world, showing you the wineries, vineyards, and all the information on the wines you are tasting.
On the evening of the event log on with your individual passcode and watch a live wine tasting that you can interact with through the chat room. You will see a panel of wine experts who will answer your questions during the broadcast, or just chat with other participants. It is so much fun...and educational!

Paul,

You're right, It's not French Laundry, but it also does not cost $200 per person.

Trust me and Jay when we tell you to stop and try it out. You will love us for the suggestion. Taylors Refresher is the best greasy spoon ever.

Don't miss it.

My wife and I went to our first vineyard on our honeymoon in Nova Scotia. We stopped at Domaine du Grand Pre in the town of Grand Pre and it was great. The vineyard itself is beautiful, including all the buildings and the layout. Their store has a wine bar and they even have an art gallery featuring the work of a local artist.

We took the $6 tour, which included a tasting of their various wines at the end.

Coincidentally, we were listening to the podcast on ice wines during the trip and then had a chance to buy some ice wine at Grand Pre.

The people there were kind and friendly and accommodating. The wines were very nice and since they are unavailable in the States, an opportunity to get something I wouldn't otherwise.

You can be sure we'll be taking more vineyard tours. While someday we'll probably take a tour in Napa or Sonoma, I think more of these off-the-beaten track vineyards will be on our schedule.

I'm a relative wine novice, but my appreciation and understanding of wine has soared since I started listening to Grape Radio. Thanks guys!
