Been holding these on my iPod for a while. Finally got a chance to listen to them while sitting in the last row of a United SFO-JFK flight. Really enjoyed them. Saw Bruno's Badge Pinot Noir in Sam's Wines in Chicago last wkend and, remembering this podcast, I picked it up. Drinking it now and it's great. Wouldn't have given it a second look if I hadn't remembered it from this podcast.

Enjoyed the discussions but the applause nearly blew my ears out. It would be best to either edit out or significantly reduce the audiance response (applause, laughter, cross-talk, etc). It is nice in terms of ambiance, but a better balance would be helpful for audiance type events in the future.

It was great to find this! I enjoyed the discussion amongst the winemakers, but would have REALLY enjoyed perspective from each on the wines themselves- after they had tried them.

Doug, true - it's certainly not an optimum situation with the omni - though it does work rather well in roundtable settings. We usually jack into the audio system, but given the smaller size of the venue, the SRH bunch elected not to use microphones, so no audio system. Logistically, we assumed that the panel would stay seated at the table, and we placed our mic accordingly in the center of things. But, as luck would have it, they each got up and moved to stage right for their monologues. But, like you said, we got some nice content.

The crosstalk in the open mic (and background chatter, wineglass clinking, etc.) isn't as bad as I'd feared but it is at times annoying. All things considered it would be better to have mics for each speaker, although I understand that might not always be feasible.

Good discussion though!
