Shari and Garen Staglin

Staglin Family Vineyard began in 1985, when Garen and Shari Staglin purchased a unique 62-acre Rutherford Bench property with a 50-acre producing vineyard from Walter Sullivan and his wife Dagmar dePins, Georges de La Tour’s granddaughter. Originally planted under the guidance of the legendary André Tchelistcheff in 1965 (for BV Georges de La Tour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon), the vineyard has been sustainably farmed since 1990, and is organically certified.

Join us for a visit with Garen and Shari Staglin, along with their winemaker, Luc Morlet, as we talk with the Staglins about their many philanthropic activities, the Napa scene over the last two decades, what it takes to run a vineyard of this magnitude.

All About Sake

06sake1main.jpg

Often referred to as Rice Wine, Sake (saw-kay) actually has more in common with beer than with wine — because it’s brewed, rather than merely fermented. Join us as we talk with Jason Carter from the Wine Room about the many types of Sake, as well as the origin and customs surrounding this classic Japanese beverage. This may be Sake 101, but pay close enough attention and you’ll be saying, domo arigato for the intro.

Join us for a seminar featuring moderator Anthony Dias Blue and wine makers Ernst Loosen of Dr Loosen and Bob Bertheau of Chateau St. Michelle as they talk about Rieslings from around the world — how they’re doing and where they’re going. While Germany’s Riesling roots run deep, Washington State’s vinifera-growing only goes back to the late ’60s. Yet, Washington’s CSM has found a winning combination in their partnership with Germany’s world-renowned Dr. Loosen Estate — and the result is some outstanding wines.

Sine Qua Non was created after the 1994 harvest of Syrah from the Bien Nacido Vineyard in Santa Maria. Named “The Queen of Spades,” this Syrah began a long string of uniquely-named red and white wines. The thought-provoking name for each wine, along with its fascinating label and packaging is all designed by Manfred Krankl, and there is a story behind each one.

Join us for Part 2 of our discussion with Manfred Krankl, and his storied wines.
