Fontanafredda
One of the oldest producers in Barolo, the Fontanafredda estate is a major player in Piedmont with a solid repertoire in Barolo, Barbera d’Alba, Dolcetto d’Alba and other Piedmontese DOCs. At the top of the line are the single vineyard Barolos: La Rosa, Lazzarito, La Delizia and La Villa, followed by some standard Barolo and Barbaresco cuvées. Owned and run by the Monte dei Paschi Monte dei Paschi di Siena since 1931, Fontanafredda’s fruit is sourced primarily from 70 hectares of their own vineyards, with the remainder coming from several hundred local growers with long-term contracts.
Join us as Danilo Drocco (winemaker since 1999) leads us through an amazing vertical tasting, while describing the soils, the winegrowing, and his own traditional winemaking processes and how they meld with the more modern methods introduced by Piero Antinori.

Personally I find it the most exquisite historic winemaking region which offers you multiple choice of wines on the spot. One can hardly resist the irresistible mixture of flavours and aromas of true Italian wines in the region.
Danilo Drocco’s comments in the video regarding the 1997 Barolo vintage have caused a bit of a stir here:
