Chile is developing a well deserved reputation for excellent wine. Much as Washington state in the U.S., it is finding that it isn’t easy to compete with the established players, such as France and California, and break into the upper echelon of wine producers, despite several excellent vintages.
As with Washington, perseverance, coupled with excellent wines, is changing that. More Americans now think of Chile when looking for first rate wines, which is nothing but good for both the country’s wine industry and wine drinkers in the U.S.
Superb point Steve. I often wonder why retailers don’t carry a wider selection of wines from places like Chile and Washington state. Perhaps they are just playing it safe, or maybe they are not taking the time to broaden their horizons.
