Vineyards of Sonoma County – with Anaba Wines

13anaba1main.jpg

Anaba (“Anna-bah”) takes its name from the cool upward-flowing breezes called anabic winds that frequently stream through the estate Carneros vineyard during the warm summer months. Owner John Sweazey is thought to be the first vintner in Northern California to harness wind power to supplement power in his tasting room and storage facility.

The Director of Winemaking and Vineyard Operations, and the General Manager of Anaba is Jennifer Marion, a graduate of UC Davis who as been at Anaba since its launch. Join us as we talk with Jennifer about her multifaceted role at the winery and the Rhone and Burgundian varietals she crafts at Anaba. Along the way, the Grape Radio crew has quite a few laughs in this thoroughly enjoyable conversation.

I love how eco-friendly, groundbreaking and energy efficient this winery is! Great interview and lovely photos.

Loved the interview – and though I am a yearly visitor to Sonoma/Carneros – I hadn’t been to Anaba. Definitely on to my list for 2014.

One note though on the conversation – Jim Clenenden has been blending Mondeuse into his Santa Barbara Pinot Noir for a while – and puts the information on the front label. (85% Pinot, 15% Mondeuse)

Not to mention Bourgogne Passe-Tout-Grains which is a traditional blend of Pinot Noir and Gamay – with AOC status no less.

    Steve,

This is probably the source of those rumors of Syrah being added to CA Pinot. ;-) . (Tongue Firmly Planted in Cheek)

Some of Babcock’s entry level Pinot has a few percentage of Syrah in it. I’m not sure how consistent that is, though.
